STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

Installation, Political / Social, Various materials, 200x300x250cm, 2011
Stairs are a universal symbol: they represent climb and descent, progress and regression, evolution and involution, but it also represents dynamism, one is never still on a flight of stairs! Thus, stairs symbolize the very life of man, mutating constantly, in every instant.
To climb is to elevate the conscience of man, the inability to climb, or the fall brings desperation, disintegration, evoking a strong sense of oppression, of the impossible. The phase in which our society finds itself today is obscure, a phase of crisis, of sufferance, in transition. Humanity has one foot raised, balancing pre cautiously, searching for the next step. We cannot in any way understand this next step. We can however, live with the understanding that after this obscure stage in humanity there can only be a period of enlightenment, of “well-being”, and of happiness. The phase in which, after a period of instability, will finally rest its foot on a step well constructed, and secure of a new era.
