My work sets forth the way of recovery History Paintings’ themes, thus questioning the renewal of painting itself.
The anachronism that goes with every historical reconstitution is entirely desired. It creates a permanent overlap between high and low culture questions the place that we allow to history in our lives.
The grotesque aspect of the paintings personifies an important characteristic of it (historical fancy dress’ costumes, background decoration printed on publicity cover,…). By being placed in a historical context, banality of the objects used is glorified.
Moreover, if the history painters were considered as being scholars, I am a “Wikipedian history painter”.
My work’s tackling memory’s notion too, because the treated themes in the paintings became kind of blurry for the contemporaries that we are beside a few erudites. My paintings implicate directly spectator in history and art history.
