Artworks / "Last stand" - (old shoe lasts, pine, Hebel blocks )

This interactive installation incorporates the concept of finite time. It has been designed as a horizontal abacus, which can be used as a calendar running to year 9999 as well as a fully functional abacus; an ancient counting device. The shoe lasts slide backwards and forwards along the rows.On each row each shoe last on the left side counts as `5` and each shoe last on the right counts `1`. The date can be displayed from the upper row to the lower row (xx/yy/zzzz) by moving the lasts accordingly.

This work shows that while time may be running out for our world, for our environment,for the individual, there is still time for solutions to protect and save the unique beings on our planet - but this time is finite- Are we beginning the "Last" stand ?
