VERNISSAGE
Tuesday May 22, 19.00 After the first stop in Berlin at Schau Fenster Gallery, Sing Sweet Songs of Conviction arrives in Rome in the unique space of Label201, an old barn from the 1900's restored with great care fully respecting the existing architecture.

There will be a series of performances and video projections in the courtyard and the outbuildings surrounding the barn during the opening on May 22.

Spectators can take part in a series of special events including: a live sound performance by Helena Hamilton (N. Ireland), "Climb through the holes in my brain to get to my soulluos, I promise to wake up soon" inside the Marmists' shop, a video in the pitch black, "Marina" by Pernette Scholte (The Netherlands), and a video projection in the courtyard, "I ain't superstitious" by Francesca Romana Pinzari (Italy).

This group of artists met in New York as finalists for the Celeste Prize International in December 2010. Sing Sweet Songs of Conviction began as the idea of putting together a travelling show that would stop in each of the home cities of the participating artists. From Spring 2012-Spring 2013, in fact, the show will be travelling to Belfast, Berlin, London, Mexico City, New York City and Rome.

A guest artist and a guest curator have been invited to participate in each city, to highlight local talent and to make each show specific to the site. Pietro Ruffo, as guest artist, will be showing for the first time two monumental drawings on arabic maps, called "South American Spring" and "Africa Spring," a part of his series entitled, "Freedom Supermarket." He is presented by Laura Barreca, whose text accompanys his piece.

Julia Draganovic has written the introductory text for the catalogue.
