Disordered Shadows

Inspite of all scientific evolution, human beings cannot be fully understood. We can stop researching and listening to our own feelings, but they remain. No one can delete one’s own transcendence, so you better go on facing it! A man who avoids self-exploration and comprehension remains an ordinary one. This is the reason why I’m specially moved when I see Simone Bergantini and Nicola Vinci’s photos. An obscure area is always present, left by a feeling which obstructs the source of light . The shadows in their work represent the whole space occupied by their opaque minds.
The confused silhouette shrouded by mist, in Bergantini’s work, makes the viewer feel uncomfortable and scared. Is a damned safari where an innocent, stuffed fox brings us into question, subverting our rationality. Without any background and stripped of any perspective, we are disoriented and able to join our own inside absence. Just a pool of light coming up helping us to make order and borders.

Vinci’s subjects hang between the research of the memory and his own path. He likes to explore spaces, finding rooms where past lives and stories can emerge and be connected to the present. These are Disordered Shadows, fragile, surreal, still, that belong to a fairytale that is already past. He moves beyond the boundary of straight portraiture quoting freely from theatrical, biblical and magical subjects.
