I would want to speak to you of a work of Chagall: Birthday (1915-1923, Legacy Lillie P. Bliss, Museum of Modern art, 81x100).
Chagall reached Berlin from Paris and later continued immediately the trip up to Vitebsk to see his/her family again and to meet with Bella, the fiancée and future wife. Bella, in this occasion, it gave to Chagall a bunch of flowers and him it painted this picture to commemorate the episode.
The colors are shining, the perspective and the space almost have a likelihood realist that turns on the wonder of the two figures it suspended in the air in the lyricism of their feeling.
Bella describe the joy during the meeting: <<... we easily detached there from the ground ... together ... with above the decorated room, and we flew; reaches the window, we would have wanted to push beyond us. From the window they called us light clouds and a stain of blue sky. The walls and the colored shawls started to turn around us in an eddy that gave us the dizziness. And we flew above lawns full of flowers, above dormant houses, roofs, courtyards, churches... >>.

And you? Would like to live in a painting by Chagall?

I think that to a certain degree I do live in this painting. It looks so familiar the feeling it evokes. Given the kind of man that Chagall was, he was giving of himself to the world.
