Ten members of BIENNALE AUSTRIA association have dealt with the words NAHAUFNAHME / CLOSE UP in their own particular way.
NAHAUFNAHMEN/ CLOSE UPS are a favorite tool of filmmakers. Close-ups show only a segment of the event, foreground the protagonists and do not show the topic in a broader context of its surroundings.
In this exhibition NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS draw the attention of the viewer to several scenes of everyday life.
The focus on different aspects of human existence, be it everyday violence, terror, nudity, crisis, coldness, religiosity, lost individuality, leaves plenty of space for your own thoughts about these topics, without showing the subject in its full range.
The works show the viewer’s how much one's life is marked by events - NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS. It is shown how capturing these events are. Reports about terrorist attacks lead us so close to the action, so that gazing like fixed on the ongoing we feel ourselves like one of the protagonists of this scenery.
NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS are not subject to any time frame. They sink so deep into our consciousness so that already many years later a small hint is needed to bring them back in our mind. Over years or decades the focus on details leaves us often in the dark about the progress of the happening and the correlation of the single events. Our attention is conditioned on NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS. Depending on the quality of time some NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS are more noticeable than others. The perception of beauty and diversity of the own living environment can be strongly cut out by NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS, who contain coldness, lost individuality or absorption of thoughts. In this case an even stronger stimulus is needed to change or expand the point of view and thus to control actively the proceeding again.
Though we are asked to face up "moments of transience" with a clear conscience, to see the own determination / in the cycle of nature, to turn "The Crisis" not to our own crisis, to face coldness with humanity, to perceive NAHAUFNAHMEN / CLOSE UPS as an invitation to look more closely at occurrences and to recognize the first step towards change.
"Hopefully the exercise will succeed."
