Lives and works in Berlin

With galleries in three bustling hotspots – New York City, Berlin, and London – Strychnin Gallery is a playground for artists from all around the globe. It is a place where collaboration is encouraged, new projects are constantly developed and creativity is the one and only thing that truly counts.
Owned by charismatic curator Yasha Young, Strychnin is dedicated to presenting emerging American artists to the European art world and vice versa. It features a variety of artists with particular individual styles rather than artists belonging to a collective “hip” movement. If you insist on putting a label on them, try lowbrow turned highbrow, pop surrealism or fantastic realism among others.
The gallery participates in major international art fairs on a regular basis, including Bridge Art Fair, Liste, or Art Fair 21 in Cologne, which appointed Yasha Young to its curatorial board in 2008.

Strychnin Gallery Berlin presents: BOMBS AWAY! A graffiti show curated by American graffiti artist Tim Conlon aka CON. Featuring over 20 international graffiti artists including SEEN, WANE, WEB ONE, CAN2, AREK, and MYTH. Starts April 17th at 7 p.m. – runs until May 3rd.
Graffiti’s invasion of everyday culture, from the underground of subway walls and freight trains into our daily lives, started for good in the 1980s. Both its commercialization but also its upheld status as an illegal “outlaw” activity has since ensured graffiti’s continued appeal and the controversy surrounding it. Over the last few years, its acceptance as a true art form, of meaningful cultural expression rather than as mere vandalism performed by rebellious teenagers, has steadily grown, and consequently the art world’s interest in graffiti and its history, as well as other forms of street art has led the medium away from the streets, into commercial settings, and onto the exhibition walls of galleries and museums.
In 2008, Tim Conlon aka CON, an American graffiti writer who has been active in the American and international graffiti scene for over 15 years, and AREK (Dave Hupp) were asked to take part in R13;Recognize!R14;, an exhibition on R13;Hip Hop and Contemporary PortraitureR14; at the prestigious National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. Featuring graffiti as one of the cornerstones of hip hop culture, CON and AREK presented large-scale works in this immensely successful exhibition in the US capitol.
Bombs Away! is a graffiti show curated by CON at Berlin’s Strychnin Gallery, featuring some of the most prominent US graffiti writers today, including R13;The Godfather of GraffitiR14; himself, Richard Mirando – better known as SEEN. Having started his career in New York City in 1973, SEEN is considered one of the most famous old school NYC R13;grafR14; writers. His work has been shown alongside such artists as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, or Jean-Michael Basquiat. SEEN continues working today and has, among other things, recently produced work with and alongside famous British street artist Banksy.
Featuring works on canvas as well as spray-painted model trains of various sizes and LIVE SPRAYING on the opening night, Bombs Away! brings works by over 20 internationally acclaimed graffiti writers to Strychnin Gallery Berlin.
