Contemporary African art was a mystery to many people, but after the presentation at the 52nd
Venice Biennale in 2007 the interest in African art has greatly increased. A long-standing wish of the
organizers of the Art Stays festival will finally come true with the African Pavilion in the Magistrat
Gallery, where works of 10 renowned African artists will be presented. This is a superb exhibition of
paintings and photographs by artists who were presented at the 2007 Venice Biennial – including
Egyptian George Fikry and Kenyan-German couple IngridMwangiRobertHutter.
ARTIST:
George Lilanga (Tanzania), Mamba (Zimbabwe), George Fikry (Egypt), Etoudi Essamba (Cameroon),
IngridMwangiRobertHutter (Kenya-Germany), Mbuno Kivuthi (Kenya), Evarist F. Chikawe (Tanzania),
Ester Mahlagu (South Africa), Mikael Malikita (Tanzania), Richard Onyango (Kenya)
