The regeneration of the Piagge neighborhood

1 - BACKGROUND
The Piagge is a neighborhood of the village of Brozzi, which lies on the western outskirts of Florence. A significant area, but bumpy and neglected, not far from the city center, is potentially valuable and attractive for localization, but at the same time degraded and polluted due to poor quality of the processes of urbanization and growth.
HISTORY - The first project of building expansion plan of the area dates back to Florence in 1962, which provided a model neighborhood for about 14,000 residents. But the project was abandoned due to some unexpected. The interest in the area of R03;R03;Piagge awoke in the early eighties, when the town of Florence was faced with a sudden emergency housing. The hasty allotment as a result gave a neighborhood separated from the historical neighbors, the anomalous traffic and no services of any kind. In 2004 Giancarlo De Carlo developed the Project Guide for the overall reorganization of the entire settlement of Piagge. Among the interventions appear the redevelopment of the settlement "Le Navi", the construction of a railway station, the renovation of the former incinerator and a new road. Plan De Carlo was applied, however only 80%, the remaining 20%, ie golf courses, park, residential accommodation for children, shops and new roads were inapplicati.
THE CURRENT SITUATION - The image of the buildings is generally decent but the total disorder in the general, in relationships, in volumes, in the common areas and systems of connections, uncoordinated and disorganized, involves the complete lack of urban character and identity . The neighborhood is organized to parallel bands - the Via Pistoia, the railroad, the river - little or no communication between them, with an internal road which tends to twist on itself, always coming back on the main street. It is missing the connection between the cores built, and the continuity of paths and open spaces, while overlooking a generalized isolation. Area that overlooks via San Donnino is also a lake, the so-called "Swamp", nestled among the homes of Piagge; it is a short-emergence of the aquifer and its inhabitants and associations calling for a renewal year, with the creation of a park.
2 - THE PROJECT
And 'right here, from the existing vegetation and the lake, which originates in our project: nature as heart surgery. Built-up areas, which occupy a small part of the batch, create a synthesis between natural form and artificial form, creating a natural one with the amorphous mass, although based on a geometric matrix. Textile timely and form of the square characterizes the entire project. In a report of full and empty, undeveloped area is thought of as green areas and common areas that bring continuity in public and private space. Especially in the area, the buildings are taken up the pace and complexity of medieval Gothic city, joined to the theme of the decomposition of form and color. The materials are not poor but refined and perfect and natural, these same materials that we nowadays discard regain value and are of the buildings. They want to be a representation of a return to origins, amalgamated with a pristine environment. He takes life as an intervention consisting of individual buildings is not unrelated, but by a single button that establishes a dialogue with the context: nature and tradition.

The context in which it is developing the project is the outskirts of Florence consists of large unused spaces or malgestiti. Despite this, the plot has great potential being characterized by a large mass of green and a pond in the center.
The area is located between the river Arno in the south and north of State Street Pistoia, Florence is located to the east, west and the highway a little further along the incinerator with a waste storage facility. It 'was just the state of degradation to dell'intorno to develop the project like a city set in the countryside. In fact, there is enriched by those habits and spaces that had been lost and nobody cared, with new areas of green meadows and forests for recreation or spaces for cultivation.
In addition to integrating with existing around the project wants to connect to the major points of interest through a series of branching paths that stretch out towards the Arno from the nucleus already inhabited. Starting from the main road, the buildings of the project are arranged along two main paths that wind around the center of the lot, the lake, like branches of a tree to sew an urban void.
The district is entirely excluded from vehicular traffic, thus increasing the quality of life and fostering a sustainable and healthy movement within the sector.
The project was designed to evolve over time.
From the spontaneous creation of paths that connect the main attractions of the neighborhood every citizen has the opportunity to complete their homes. In a later stage the community will construct buildings for the district. They provide space for urban gardens in the sole care of the tenants of the same neighborhood and even space devoted to the cultivation for energy production with biomass. Everything is designed for self-sufficiency and economic welfare of the neighborhood.
The coating of buildings is made of special materials recycled, from cardboard and newspapers or even wood scraps of industrial production. Even the street furniture, lighting and the benches, is completely derived from recoveries of industrial chain, allowing the reuse of waste materials such as metal, wood pallets and crates.
The project is designed not only for the specific lot, but the application for the redevelopment of all the slums where he lost touch with the common areas and their surroundings. The aim is to exploit the great spaces of the periphery so as to involve every resident within the life of the neighborhood, increasing the sense of responsibility for the care and maintenance of public spaces, the sense of community together to create something useful all, the quality of life and environmental quality for a sustainable lifestyle and economy, away from the frenetic pace that the city requires us to have.
HEAVEN AND EARTH
INTRODUCTION
The theme of the project is to imagine, as required by the notice of contest "FUTURE CITIES-planning for the 90 per cent; the world in forty years" through the establishment of possible architectural models Multipurpose, both as an expression of "re-appropriation of public space for the development of new connections and use "and as a" reinstatement of public space as a place ". The design process "HEAVEN AND EARTH" is a possible answer to these goals, trying to propose architectural models in contrast to the concept of separation between the built and unbuilt space and are not a specific contrast between urbanized areas and places for indigenous " eteronomica nature of architecture "that is expressed through those values outside the" project directed "that the" genius loci "the real underlying theme.
So the use value of architecture that not only identifies with its most significant tectonic and urbanization of the void but which is expressed through a "landscape project" in what form, space and memory are in a symbiotic relationship and the constitutive a specific architectural model for an effective "response to the specific needs of a local community."
A - THE PLACE
Nietzsche said that art is born from the union of two elements: a realistic and a great unreality.
We believe that architecture can express this through her expressive codes.
Edward Hopper has them both, and in the highest degree, and it is for this reason that the proposed architectural fragment found in the peninsula of Cape Cod, in the state of Massachusetts in South Truro (USA), where the artist has constructed a house to spend the summer months, the chosen place between heaven and earth architecture. The skyline in the background of the morphology of the hills, surrounded by a diaphanous light, seems an expression of continuity and infinite sinuous line between the earth and the sky. The project has as a constituent element of the background internal / external and private / public the need for a "fusion" of the natural elements of orographic rolling hills of Cape Cod with '"artificial architecture." So the art of landscape that lives through the space in which the separate elements and / or dissociated that make up the entire landscape come together in subjective form through the space. The design theme is characterized by an architecture that is suspended sull'orografia spaces for settling the land in a natural way as a cloud, without mass, without an intrusion artificial, as a symbiosis between nature and artifice.
B - STRATEGY / PLAN
The design concept is expressed through a system of clouds that contain timely distribution system: stairwells, elevators, lifts and escalators and space to rest and relaxation, a widespread system of natural resting on boxes and hanging clouds that contain the functions Usage: housing, services, sports, recreational, cultural, commercial spaces ... and becomes a multi-purpose that specific application for a final program of functional needs.
The sky is represented by a building shaped like a cloud, a shell, a cloud created by a network structure in the duplex steel, resting on the floor and covered externally and internally by LED panels that convert the image in general possible types of sky: Cloudy, dull, sun, night, star etc.. The choice of the image of the model of the air takes place via a program inserted into a computer applied on every cloud, in such a way as to allow the users of the spaces to define at will the external image of this architecture media, up to a fusion between the real sky and the cloud of virtual architecture. A kind of "utopia participated" for the construction of urban space that acts through a management protocol and control of its mutation from the images reproduced on the outer surface / internal clouds.
The earth is represented by the architecture and nature that expresses itself in suspended volumes that contain the different functions with the same form and thus annulled the concept of type of distribution.
To describe, in architectural form, the Earth's surface, the plan becomes the support of any plant architecture artificial. So a cancellation of a closed volume for transposition into an exterior that may allude to the spiritual aspect of nature as seen in works by Edward Hopper is the union of two elements, a realistic and a great unreality.
PS: The architectural design is to create the reality that every day is always the beginning of a future in 40 years ... from HEAVEN AND EARTH.
