I am Cristina Yang Jaguaribe Ekman a.k.a kiki jaguaribe (1970). I started at the age of fourteen, with an Amiga, generating images with the aid of a scientific calculator. At seventeen I was already an AutoLISP developer. I met Johnas Mekas at 23, and he introduced me to "art verité". He told me everyone can live with art and i decided to became an artist.
In 2007 I tabled two "film verité" in the Museum of Sound and Image (MIS), "peepneep" (webcam images captured with print screen) and "Ctrl+C" (shortcuts to PC captured with cellcam)
In 2006 I and vj BeteRum presented a "pocket show" live with images, sounds and voices that were open source on my blog of colaborative multimedia poetry via intermedia. People used to send me the voices from all over the world saying the string "There is a sea inside me" in their original language, or sounds and images related to the topic and i posted on the blog so visitors could manipulate these data. In "pocket show" the public said the sentence to the microphone.
I developed a work that in some way reflects my problems. I work a lot and I have compulsion by technology. I am compulsive and need to control my impulses. I had to learn to use the mobile phone in a responsible way. The "Online dopamine compulsion project" is a series of ten portraits and self portraits , and was chosen as Editor's Choice award in the Celeste Prize 2015 (Italia). "The urban life leads us to the online dopamine compulsion". This theme is an alert about the compulsion to dopamine in the center of cerebral reward due to the search for pleasure obtained via online and digital media.
This same concept led me to meet a crew to develop the proposal for installation multimedia interactive "#GLITCH - OnLine Dopamine Compulsion", composed of a microphone, a computer and a backlight with the 10 images in a dark room. When trygering the system the backlight illuminates and the sounds evoke the feeling of a psychotic episode or of a person under the effect of LSD. Then the dark and the silence again. This project has references to Ligia Clark being a "living experience" and to Lacan by their characteristic of interruption.
The "Extended dopamine compulsion" is the progress of this process, is an event with my curatorship, that will happen in march. For this moment I invited by electronic means visual artists who work with events and djs to present themselves in my birthday party. I will project in public for the first time the ten images that I created. There will be no alcohol or drugs. I want to create a healthy environment and full of art. This is a tribute also to these artists invited because I greatly admire them all.The idea is simple: dopamine asks more dopamine.
