festival
of Contemporary art - Italy
21-23 May - The city of Faenza welcomes OPERE/works, the third edition of the
festival of Contemporary art. Under
the scientific direction of Angela Vettese, Carlos Basualdo
and Pier Luigi Sacco, the festival has become an important event
in the international contemporary art calendar, thanks to its
unique characteristics. After the success of the first two editions,
which brought more than 25,000 visitors and 250 speakers from
all around the world
to Faenza, at OPERE/works, from 21st to 23rd May 2010, we will
look at artworks as we have never seen them before. Artists,
critics, curators, philosophers, opinion leaders and key figures
of the
international art and culture system will
meet the public in Faenza to develop the theme from different
points of view. Different formats will investigate the life,
the meaning, the exhibition matters related to the works. Among
these formats there will be also debates on contamination between
art and different forms of culture, such as design, fashion system
and food. Moreover a programme of more than sixty fringe events,
a special event and the Cnight party, will keep the city on during
the
week of the festival.

LaRete
Art Projects is proud to present Colombian performance artist
Maria José Arjona for the first time in Italy.
Arjona gained the reputation of being one of the most outstanding
emerging performance artists of Latin America due to her recent
showings at the Watermill Center on Long Island (NY), the Haus
der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin and as the only visual artist
participating in the re-enactments of Marina Abramovic’s
historical pieces in her current retrospective at the MoMA
New York. After her Italian debut at the Museum MADRE in Naples,
June 12-15 2010, where Arjona will take part in the performance
series “Corpus. Arte in Azione”, the Colombian
artist will present three site specific interventions in the
city of
Bologna. VIRES is the title of a series of exercises concerning
power. Maria José Arjona researches individual, social
and political power restrictions and invites her audience to
rediscover its own possibilities of choice and physical interaction.
