Born in 1962 in Cosenza, South of Italy, Maurizio Orrico, after various artistical experiences in Italy, and after frequent travels in the United States in the beginning of the 90’s, he finally realizes his first “personal” in the prestigious space of Leo Castelli in New York in 1994.
Simultaneously to his work of pictorical research, he is involved in analogical and digital photography and other expressive means such as sculpture, installations and video art. Main characters of this artistical journey are animals: sheeps, cows/bulls and pigs.Maurizio Orrico is one of the founders and members of PSL, Pluri Sensorial Laboratory, a work in progress laboratory which studies techniques that facilitate the reduction of perceptive anomalies. This laboratory starts through a sistematical recoinassance of the “sensory concept”: a restrictive concept for sense carriers.
The PSL laboratory investigates and opens research through a continous study on “techniques of representation”, defined as enlargement/ amplification of a picture/painting or of the sensorial spectrum.
