Dedicato a Michelangelo Merisi
This is a personal elaboration of the work “Cena in Emmaus”, realized in 1606 by Michelangelo Merisi told Caravaggio, it is preserved in the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan. It was a tribute to the damn painter to 400 years after his death.
It was painted by Caravaggio after the escape from Rome becauseof the assassination of RanuccioTommasoni. We can see the same subject on canvas in 1601 preserved in London.
As Caravaggio, with his unique style of painting, the artist wanted to transmit to the observer his personal vision of a society surrounded by darkness, where only the righteous man is illuminated by a kind of a transfiguring light that makes the center of their own destiny.
