PURPOSE

Present Contemporary Art, in collaboration with Present'Art - Associazione di Collezionisti e Mecenati, is organizing the second edition of the FLORENCE-SHANGHAI PRIZE. This competition will take place in order to give artists a chance to promote contemporary art in China and Italy.

COMPETITION DEscriptION

Competition registrations open on June 25, 2013, and close on November 30, 2013. The competition outcome will be published on December 15, 2013.

There are 4 categories:
- Painting
- Sculpture and Installation
- Photo art
- Video art

At the end of the competition the judges will select 12 winners – 3 prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd) for each one of the 4 art categories (Painting, Sculpture/Installation, Photography, Video art) – and 50 finalists with no category restriction.

For each category, 3 prizes are awarded:

For the Painting, Sculpture/Installation and Photo art categories:

I Prize - 4 artworks exhibited for free at the Present Art Festival in Shanghai and a free participation in an exhibition, to be chosen among the events organized in Milan and Florence by Present Contemporary Art.

II Prize - 2 artworks exhibited for free at the Present Art Festival in Shanghai and a free participation in an exhibition, to be chosen among the events organized in Milan and Florence by Present Contemporary Art.

III Prize - 1 artwork exhibited for free at the Present Art Festival in Shanghai and a free participation in an exhibition, to be chosen among the events organized in Milan and Florence by Present Contemporary Art.

For the Video art category:

I Prize - 4 artworks exhibited for free at the Present Art Festival in Shanghai and a free participation in an exhibition, to be chosen among the events organized in Milan and Florence by Present Contemporary Art.

II Prize - 2 artworks exhibited for free at the Present Art Festival in Shanghai and a free participation in an exhibition, to be chosen among the events organized in Milan and Florence by Present Contemporary Art.

III Prize - 1 artwork exhibited for free at the Present Art Festival in Shanghai and a free participation in an exhibition, to be chosen among the events organized in Milan Art & Events Center and Florence by Present Contemporary Art.

50 finalists - publication of one artwork in the Shanghai festival catalogue and a free catalogue copy

The finalists will be able to participate for free in one of the Present Contemporary Art online exhibitions (www.wepresentart.com)

In addition to the artworks exhibition in Shanghai, the Prize also offers the publication of artworks and winners’ biography in the catalogue (languages: English and Chinese), commercial promotion, advertisement, round-trip international transportation, etc.

PARTICIPATION RULES
The prize is open to all Artists, with no limits of age, gender, nationality or other kind. Each artist can participate with four artworks in more than one section, with an extra fee of 30 euros for each additional section.

These are the specifications:

Painting – artworks created with any style and technique (oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolour, graphite, pencil, collage, etc.) and on any surface (canvas, paper, wood, plastic, iron, etc.). The maximum allowed size for each artwork is 120 cm per side.

Sculpture and Installation – artworks created with any organic or inorganic matter. It is possible to present artworks as a digital photo project. The maximum allowed size is: base 1 meter, width 1 meter, height 1 meter.

Photo art – analog photographs b/w or color, digital photographs b/w or color, digitally processed images b/w or color, photographs entirely created with a computer. The maximum allowed size is 120 cm per side.

Video art – DVD format videos, with a duration not exceeding 15 minutes.

HOW TO REGISTER

The artists who want to participate in the competition have to send the required documents no later than November 30, 2013, writing to the following address:

The artists can submit up to 4 artworks, for more than one section. For each additional section there is an extra fee of 30 euros.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
- a scan of the registration form, filled and signed.
- good quality pictures of the artworks submitted to the competition, with artwork specifications (title; technique; year; size)
- curriculum vitae
- a copy of the registration fee payment

SELECTION CRITERIA AND JUDGES

Present Contemporary Art has the right to reject any artist who does not fulfil the required quality level. The selection of submitted artworks will be made by prestigious personalities of the world of Contemporary Art. All submitted artworks will be examined by a panel formed by international experts.

EVALUTATION COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND GENERAL EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR SUBMITTED ARTWORKS

A dedicated committee will examine all artworks and will select the winners.
The panel is composed of the following judges:

Weizhen Jiang, Present Contemporary Art President
Mario Napoli, Satura Art President
Maggie Wu, Art Investment Senior Manager
Giada Rodani, Curatress and Art Critic
Teresa Nocentini, Architect and Interior Designer

The committee will base its evaluations on the following criteria, to which it will be able to add an explanation:

a) artwork quality (30 points)
b) artwork originality and creativity (30 points)
c) values expressed by the artwork (20 points)
d) communicative potential (20 points)

The evaluation will be expressed as a number, for a total of 100 points; the evaluation sum will determine the final standings for each project. This means that the artwork with the highest score will receive the award.

If a contestant is excluded, he/she will be replaced by the contestant who is positioned right after him/her in the standings.

The judges will select 12 winners – I, II and III prize – and 50 finalists with no category restriction.
The Committee decisions are unquestionable.

The Committee will communicate the names of winners and finalists by December 15, 2013 on the Present Contemporary Art websites (www.wepresentart.com ; www.presentcontemporaryart.com)

REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee required to participate in the competition is € 50.00, and will have to be paid by one of the following means:

Bank transfer charges will not be accepted, and will imply the registration rejection.

2) Paypal or Credit card: present.firenze@live.it
with Reason: “Registration FLORENCE-SHANGHAI PRIZE 2013, Artist name, surname and telephone number”.

* The registration will only be considered valid if the payment is made by November 30, 2013.
* All artists must keep a copy of the payment. The registration fee will not be repaid.
* Foreign cheques will not be accepted.
* Artworks must not be shipped.

RESPONSIBILITY AND PRIVACY

The organizers will send all communications to mailing list subscribers: please give an existing email address.

The panel decisions are unappealable and unquestionable.

Awarded artists can refuse the award, but they can not ask the Organizers for any form of repayment: in this case, the prize will be awarded according to the rankings decided by the judges.

Each contestant gives the Organizers the right to reproduce the artworks and the texts given for the catalogue, the contestants archive and the right to advertise the artworks on the Prize website and any other communication or activity of the organizers.

Each contestant expressly authorizes Present Contemporary Art and its representatives to manage their personal data according to law 675/96 (“Privacy Law”) and subsequent changes D.lgs. 196/2003 (“Privacy Code”), also for registration in databases managed by the above mentioned persons.
The participation in the Prize implies that these rules have been read and accepted.
