Lakeside Art Gallery of Verbania is delighted to be hosting the sculptor Beatus Hofrichter, a resident of Weggis in Canton Lucerne, Switzerland, for his first Italian exhibition Materie, curated by Neil Davenport.

Stone, bronze and glass are the means by which Beatus Hofrichter satisfies a thirst for knowledge shared with the philosopher striving for the essence of things, the explorer eager to see what is beyond the horizon. He delves into materials, tests his own capabilities, explores and expands his limits; physical process, changing states of matter, the movement of bodies in water, but also human strengths and frailties all finding expression in his work.
The exposition at Lakeside presents nine of the latest works in which Hofrichter displays a remarkable technical mastery of his materials, but also his own aesthetic and a thematic conceptuality that unites diverse works such as the bronze Floating within and the marble Icarus in an exploration of human vices and virtues. The sculptures are flanked by a series of photographic works by the artist.
Accompanying the exhibition is a catalogue with a text by Neil Davenport, photos by Fred Podolak and layout by Fulvio Castiglioni.
