The artist stops the story, the story becomes art
Twenty five years after its fall, the Berlin Wall is now the largest collective work of art in the world, Paolo Balboni witness with his shots in the exhibition "Die Mauer"

Peace, love, fear, hatred, war and salvation: there is all this, and not only in the fifty photographs that Paolo Balboni took the Berlin Wall between 2008 and 2015, and that will be on display at the Royal Hotel Carlton Bologna by January 23, at Art city white night, for Art fair 2015.
The so-called East Side Gallery in Berlin is a stretch of the wall over a kilometer, entirely painted by over 100 artists, now considered a protected monument, a symbol of freedom. Balboni has dissected with his goal, and now leads him to Bologna, just when recur the twenty-five years after the fall of the Wall.
"I wish that my photographs trasmettessero a message of hope, of possible change - explains Balboni-, the wall itself, as an instrument of division, has become one of the most beautiful works of art in the world and is a symbol of union between peoples, of freedom of expression. "
A change, that of the Wall that divided the German city, which is proved from the pages of Il Resto del Carlino, that accompany the images on display. Articles taken from the archive of the Bologna newspaper, tracing the history of the Wall, from the dark days of 1961, when it was built, the euphoria of those magical days of 1989, when the borders were reopened and divided families could finally meet.
"I shall forty photographs of size 50 x 50 and ten of 1,50mt x 1.20 mt. Through my lens you will see how artists have interpreted that piece of history, in large part feelings of freedom, hope and brotherhood. "
Fragments of history. Hands, many hands that shake, that break chains, which tend forward towards hope. In front of the Berlin Wall, a symbol of death and oppression, most of the artists have seen the rebirth of life. They wiped out the gray covering of colors, flowers, rainbows, smiles.
Balboni, who always gave us his personal reading of reality, this time you witness the art and history. Celebrate the change, and its colorful shots have the same explosive power of black and white with which he had told the contrasts of Jerusalem.
In looks disenchanted children had discovered the Senegal, we had brought in Istanbul plunging deep into the eyes of Turkish women. From the streets of Cuba had brought the smell of decaying Buick, from Tuscany had kidnapped the charm of the doors scuffed by time. Then we had done in the dream castle of Clare and fly between the wings of the angels in the light. Now brings us to Berlin. Does not interpret, we only witness. But we're sure? What does it matter, after all you do not need to know. All you need is to tell the story, a goal that you put in front of a wall, the simplest gesture, let the pictures speak.
