Biografia

Born in 1985, Sümer Sayın lives and works in Berlin and Istanbul. In her works, she mostly deals with our subjective perception of time and space, asking basic questions of existence about ambiguous situations. She uses various media, focusing on installation and re-organizes elements of conventional objects in new ways, to create poetic meanings. After the completion of her studies in Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, she attended the MFA program in Oslo Art Academy in years 2008-2010. She had solo shows in Apartment Project Berlin, Sabrina Amrani Gallery in Madrid, Art On İstanbul, Akershus Kunstsenter Oslo among others. She recently participated in group exhibitions in Dzialdov Berlin, Plato Sanat, Elgiz Museum, Versus Art Project and Mixer Gallery in Istanbul and took part in international art exhibitions and biennials such as Rendez-Vous, Jeune Création Internationale / 13e Biennale de Lyon, in 2015; Nights of Museums and Galleries, Plovdiv in 2014; 31 Kilo Project in Künstlerhaus Dortmund in 2014, Sinopale in 2012. She participated in artist-in-residency programs including freeDimensional in New York; Penelopolis project workshop in Podgorica, Montenegro; Bufferzone workshop in Istanbul and Nicosia, organized by Apartment Project; Cité International des Arts, Paris and Dos Mares Residency, Marseilles, France. She is the receiver of the Turkish Cultural Foundation stipend in 2014, O’Art Prize in 2016 and Rotary Art Prize in 2017.
