Biografia
My work is about borders, borders of someones self in relation with his or her surrounding environment. Intimacy, comfort. I see them as an innate cage. A cage that has a duality. And I’m trying to understand when it is protective and when it is restraining.
I use raw tactile materials inviting the senses to explore the objects skin, its origin, trying to excavate my skin, my history, diving through its layers. I make sculptures and installations that examine the limits of the emotional depth we can feel provoked by our senses. Attempting to balance between thinking and feeling.
In my work I transform immediately recognisable objects altering slightly their substance, thus their identity. I believe that the best way to communicate my thoughts is by provoking the viewers sensitivities, creating an emotional connection between the person and the sculpture or the situation presented.
In a way I’m trying to present the other side of the story. Like when a mattress is not as soft as we think, a floor is not as stable as once taken for granted. When the comfortability of knowing is lost, intimacy is taken away. And there is where my work starts. When I un-learn.
