Biography
I work under a theme called Mutakura( the name of a Shona snack made of subsistence and mass agricultural ingredients ground nuts and corn). The word translated literally as 'what is carried on a journey' and I this as an overall approach to my work where identity is an ongoing process to be worked through individually and together. This diasporaic and peripetaic sensibility means that in order to journey I am making, performing, sharing to build a metaphorical suitcase constantly analysing various beggages. I work on several projects and disciplines at once allowing them to infect each other. I also explore aliases, interventions. Current work includes Strand : An individual and Collective herstory( a collection of poems and prints), Mutakura -a food and story sharing project ( recently shortlisted for the DBACE awards), -ing (a series involving using various textiles to bind the body in repsonse to my environment l, and Versions( a song walk that seeks to transform a mundane activity into a space where we can collectively escape momentarily hold each other but that also looks at the politics of voices on the move.
