Biography
Amandine Nabarra Piomelli photographs personal stories like voyages (en train), Au fil des nuages or imaginary tells, Imaginary biology-Fauna. She is interested in identity problems facing her friends or unknown persons she has read about, The Caretaker, Secret Love. Her visual journeys combine poetic and documentary sensibilities, each image is a story that crosses other destinies in one series. People, places and objects are connecting in unexpected ways to create a tell that can be read as fragments or in their entity.
Her images are printed specifically on supports that conveys the concept of her projects. In Los Angeles, with the help of Mac Holbert (Nash Editions), she experimented with printing on hand-made Japanese papers and on other surfaces hand-coated with gesso. At the same time, Amandine has developed three dimensional presentations of her stories through artist’s books and installations. To the static photographs she brings physical movement creating a tension and allowing an interactive approach.
Amandine was the recipient of the Masquelibros prize in Madrid, Spain. She has exhibited in numerous photography and artist’s book shows in the USA, Europe and Australia. Her work is in more than 30 private and public collections like the Art Institute of Chicago-USA, Bibliotheca Librorum Apud Aritificem Sydney – Australia, UCLA among others. She lives and work between California and Italy.
