Biography

Zvi Cohen - Artist Statement
My art is not about a predefined subject or material. After starting a painting with a draft, I will develop a process of evolution striving to an unpredicted vision. I'm carrying a sketchbook for drawings that most of are left to rest while some are triggering my imagination and are followed in a painting. I am not following a specific pattern and mainly relay on my imagination or photos as medium. My impressions and influence have been developed basically from exhibitions worldwide.
I am interested in the interaction between people, nature and art. The content or message incorporated in my painting, is meant to be exposed and received by viewers. When viewing the painting, one might interpret it differently. This turns the painting into an INTERFACE. It is made to trigger the viewer's imagination in order to reach a certain commonality with the painter's vision.
The feeling that time is not linear provides intensive rhythm in my painting. I assume that there are periods which overlap, periods of regression, parallel events, time bending, inclination and collision of different periods when events propagate each to the other and change their visual appearance.
This situation takes effect when events which were noticed in the past remain alive and exist in the present time due to a faraway memory which is visited, stimulated and visualize scenes which look like duplicated events. The perception of seeing again old views, de ja vogues, are nourishing and keep alive different entities and different worlds interconnected with drawn lines and splashed color.
