Biography
Artist's Statement
I am a figurative painter. I paint because it is the best way I know to communicate what I feel, whether it is a deep reflection, whether it is a simple reflection. Painting makes me feel free: It's like digging in the soul and pull out something that surprises me every time, It is a thought that I had always been, but I did not know until that moment.
My artistic production focuses on portraits: very often I find inspiration from the cover photo, celebrities or ordinary people. I use the faces and bodies as part of a message that I associate with some simple word or phrase, that completes the meaning. I like to think that the viewer of my work, in addition to the idea of harmony and beauty, he can find time, looking at my canvas, for a reflection on himself, society and life. I think it is important to leave this “stamp” and to force the beholder to participate in the discussion, perhaps supplementing it.
The technique I prefer is oil on canvas, as it allows me to create glazes, shades and contrasts: it is a creative process that lasts from two to three weeks on average and that brings me back several times on the same work at a distance of days.
I have drawn inspiration from the past in Dali's surrealism and in De Chirico’s metaphysics. I was fascinated by the Pop Art, and now I love Mel Ramos artistic productions.
I believe in "immediate" art, that is understandable to a broad public at least in the visual message: even if it means, for the public does not care or ill-equipped, to enjoy only part of the work.
In the near future I am going to continue my artistic research focusing always on the same track: on the man who, when not actually at the scene, will make its presence felt by his absence
