Biography
I am a German-South African artist and musician working in photography, sound and performance. I was born in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1975, went to prep school in Maseru, Lesotho, and matriculated in Bad Honnef, Germany. I live and work in Cape Town.
I hold an Honours degree in Fine Art from the University of Cape Town and a BA in education from the University of Cologne. After three years of being Head of Department, teaching Visual Arts at the German International School in Cape Town, I am now lecturing part-time in theory and discourse of art, critical studies, video, sound and photography at tertiary institutions in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, as well as working as an independent photographer and drummer.
I am also employed by the Centre for Popular Memory at UCT, and am engaged in research for my Masters dissertation on the history of Jazz Photography in Cape Town. As Is, my musical ensemble with Manfred Zylla, Garth Erasmus and Brendon Bussy performs and exhibits free-form material in various musical and visual arts contexts in Cape Town.
