Biography

The work of Sabina Simon bases on a reflection about visual-unvisual dualism in image. In New York and Brasilia works photography as a performative act where blindness is the catalyst for questioning photography function as well as to experience human limits evolved in a gregarious place.

This work is delved thanks to a research and creation grant from the Generalitat de Catalunya which, as an artist-in-residence in the mARTadero of Cochabamba, Bolivia, she voluntarily remains 40 days and 40 nights with her head into a plaster cast with the purpose of experiencing the creative process without the possibility of seeing.

Through this spatial experience, Sabina Simon begins working with sound and installation. In 2012 receives a grant to produce the project "O Coraçao sob a terra" where a series of speakers are buried as a symbol of an eternal heart living underground. Since 2009 has collaborated with the Seeing with Photography collective of New York, the Image Department of the University of Brasilia for the collective performance Claridade, likewise with the artist Luiz Simões and the Artphilein Foundation for the production and presentation of Prost in the Kusnthalle Museum of Vienna.

A word governs most phases of her work: experimenting. Thinking out of nowhere. Native of Barcelona, currently Sabina Simon works between the catalan city and Rio de Janeiro.
