Biography
Simone Benedetto was born in 1985 in Turin, where he graduated from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Fine Arts and continues to work today. During his formative years, both artistic and personal the artist spent time overseas having had the opportunity to study with both the Faculty of Fine Arts in Valencia and Lisbon while continuing to work and exhibit.
The sculptors diverse practisce is characterised by his use of a broad range of materials and figurative forms, which create a language adept at confronting themes revolving around society. His works are vignettes drawn from everyday moments, which create both a critical and self reflexive gaze upon the contradictions and problems of modern society. The works offer the public an instant for reflection; unassuming, the sculptor does not attempt to provide answers but rather he offers only questions. The strength of Simone Beneddeto’s work is founded upon his constant experimentation with new materials both traditional and unconventional. His pluralistic approach includes the use of semi-precious stones, bronze, cement, resins and silicones affirms how the artist endeavours ceaselessly to find an ever more effective material of expression both visually and materially to reflect his investigation of the relationship between man and fetish. His prioritisation of the materiality of the works affirm an underlying notion that this moment in time is of great historical importance, filled with contradictions and constraints where the object has assumed more importance than the subject.
