Biography
Rocio De Alba is a fine art photographer and photo instructor based in Queens, New York. She received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and has since enjoyed employment as a photo instructor with various adult continuation photography schools. Rocio has been a stock photographer for Getty Images since 2008. This opportunity has given her images international recognition. She has participated in-group exhibitions Nationally such as in Los Angeles at the Art Coalition, New York at the renown Flowers Gallery in Chelsea, The NYC Festival and Art Exhibition, Connecticut, and in Vermont with the Print Center's 88th Annual Competition along with The Photo Place Gallery in Middlebury and in 2014 she exhibited in Chicago with The Terry Ross Contemporary gallery. In 2012 The Queens Council on the Arts, NY honored her with the Individual Artists Initiative (IAI) award for her commitment in the arts. In 2014, she was awarded a partial scholarship to attend a three-day editing workshop at the FotoVisura's lodge in Vermont where she worked one-on-one with Whitney Johnson, Director of Photography for The New Yorker. She was recently accepted into the Fotovisura's list of Guild photographers (an invitation only membership). On April 2015. She was selected from a submission of over 3500 international entries, to attend the 3rd Annual free New York Lens Portfolio review. Most recently Rocio was interviewed and featured on World Photography Organization and Art Saves Lives. Most recently Rocio will be part of a group exhibition entitled “Postcard Show” at A.I.R. Gallery in Dumbo, NY.
The volume of Rocio’s work mainly consists of portraits that focus on the dynamics of her personal relationships as they relate to the intricacies of the modern family definition, which is exemplified in her life. Her series entitled "Girl Anachronism" attempts to depict the physiological and psychological strain a recent non-life-threatening diagnosed has had in her life.
