Biography
Process, as a symbolic form of communication, has a powerful capacity to remain open to the unforeseen. It is within this realm of giving up control and embracing spontaneity that my work is nurtured.
Sparked by my intrigue of the properties of glass and the preciousness of action, I am attempting to redefine glass as a material, abandoning traditional methods and seeking new ways to engage process and object. While glass remains a constant in my work it is just as important as its interaction with other materials. It forms a dialogue through action and reaction. I work to challenge perceived boundaries of the material and the presumed nature of things, relying on metaphor and the properties of interaction, to celebrate fragility, impermanence, and action.
While considering the relevance and functionality of glass throughout history, I am drawn to the material's ability to adapt to the needs of its society. From adornment in jewelry, to vessels, to windows, and more, glass persists as a material and medium. In more recent times, incredibly, glass has become the conveyer of information through vast networks of fiber optic cables. Understanding that light and glass have become central for modern communication, I have begun to explore metaphorical and literal understandings of these principles, focusing on our ability to connect with one another as well as ourselves. These dialogues expose our own fragile and vulnerable existence.
