Biography
In 1990 when I was 14 years old my interest in photography and images was very clear, it filled my head with imaging’s and desire to have a camera.
In 1996 I embarked on a two years diploma in visual arts majoring in photo media at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE. In this time I produced images that would make a lasting impression on my style of working.
‘Hoffman brickworks’ and ‘Confrontations’ were two major projects that I completed while at TAFE; at the same time I gained adoration with pinhole and large format photography.
In 1998 I moved to Sydney to study at Sydney College of the arts, it was here where I let my imagination run wild. I continued on with portraiture and began more explorations of my nightscapes, large formats and mixing my own black and white developers from raw materials.
In early 2000 I moved back to Melbourne taking on the role as live in caretaker at the Hoffman Brickworks, this was to be one of the most profound periods of my life and image making. I was using several different analogue cameras and began new projects. One of these projects, ‘I Terroni’, would in 2001 grant me the prestigious Samstag scholarship fulfilling my strong desire to go to Europe. Before leaving for Italy in 2002 to pursue my project ‘I Terroni’ took on another caretaker role at the old Tip Top bakeries that would still be going when I returned two years later.
My time in Europe was as gratifying as I would have hoped, my photography was taking on a new presents and audience which landed me two large exhibitions in Italy and representation of my work in Torino.
On my return to Australia I gained representation from Dickerson gallery and organized a large size exhibition at Tip Top bakeries with fellow artist and formed lasting collaborations.
In 2005 Darren Davison and myself began projecting a large interactive Camera Obscura ‘Standpoint’ for the Australian Centre for the Moving Image to be placed on Federation Square in 2006.
In 2007 ‘In situ’ was an Internet based collaboration of works to be exhibited in Sydney with fellow artists.
Collaborations are ongoing including ‘Golden Mountain’ which is to be exhibited in September 2010 and another camera obscura for Sydney. I continue to exhibit and work on my own personal projects form Melbourne, Australia.
