Biography

Originally a photographer Brigand began by shooting posed images. As her work progressed she became increasingly frustrated with the idea of staging and its forced nature. After being introduced to the work of Gary Winogrand, she began exclusively shooting street photography. Imposing an incredibly strict set of guidelines Brigand ensured that she captured honest and raw moments in her art. When she couldn't afford frames for a show featuring her work documenting Occupy Wall Street, Brigand took materials found around the city in dumpsters and on curbs outside buildings to construct the frames for her photos. This marked the beginning of her work with found objects. Brigand began to work with shipping pallet wood on the walls of her loft in Brooklyn, NY, making a textural liveable structure. Moving more to the idea of functional liveable art she started to make light installations and hanging battle scenes.
