Biography
I work in video, photography and performance. After graduating from one of Turkey’s best film schools, my curiosity for the relationship between the spectator and the performer took me to New York to train in American Method Acting. I am now settled in London and work on both sides of the camera; trying to understand and translate the language between the performer, camera and the director.
I performed at the British Museum during the Refugee Week and recently at the Block Universe Performance Art Festival. My photography work have been commissioned by the likes of The Guardian and Vice.
I am interested in translation of localised cultural codes into images and movements. My work aims to tackle gender expectations, orientalism and the limitations of language to reach a ‘ free from culture' state. Weather its a frame, moving image or shape i would search the source of that particular inspiration and apply it to a different context. A cultural pastiche of emotions and thoughts. Art is a way for me to look for meaning and context in ever so fast changing world of post capitalistic era that is now.
